The Liverpool History Society is delighted to offer a range of Guided Walking Tours around the UNESCO World Heritage City of Liverpool. Guided Walking Tours are a great way to explore the cultural sites of the City and hear about its glorious past and fascinating future.
Liverpool rose from humble beginnings to become the 2nd City of the British Empire. The success that followed the opening of the world’s first commercial enclosed wet dock in 1715 enabled Liverpool to grow both as a Port and a trading centre. The maritime industry provided golden opportunities and the town’s population grew rapidly. During the C19th the Port acted as a ‘gateway’ for millions of European emigrants making the arduous journey across the Atlantic in search of a new life. In contrast during the C20th Liverpool was the home of the Cunard and White Star shipping lines whose passengers cruised the oceans on luxurious liners.
Liverpool has two amazing Cathedrals and a rich legacy of stunning architecture which can be seen throughout the City. It also boasts the largest open air shopping centre in the UK and regularly features in the top 5 UK tourist destinations of choice.
